I have been in the fire protection industry for over 35 years with experience in fire protection management, design and installation covering all types of fire protection and life safety systems. Yes, I can still remember when we threaded schedule 40 pipe.
Since then there has been major advancements in the fire protection industry and products. I can remember when there where 4 sprinkler types, upright and pendent sprinklers, brass or chrome where your choices. Now we have sprinkler systems being installed with plastic pipe and an array of different types of sprinklers and products.
I am a 3rd generation son in the fire protection industry and have been around fire protection business all my life.
- Early 70’s to 1988 I started and ran my own fire protection company.
- 1988 to 1998 I was involved in CAD development, sales and training for the fire protection industry.
- 1998 to present I have been involved with multi family and residential systems design and consulting in the southern California area.
It is widely published and accepted that the installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems in single family homes will greatly reduce loss of life and property damage. With the recent passage of new codes requiring the installation of such systems, new concepts and products will arise. I am looking forward to these new ideas and products, and being part of this industries ability to meet these certain demands. If we start now we can be ready for these new requirements in the near future.
